This fall’s Great Islands Clean Up is Saturday, October 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. San Juan Island volunteers will meet at Jacksons Beach, where Lautenbach Recycling will provide coffee and doughnuts to fuel their efforts! The Department of Environmental Stewardship has free t-shirts for kids who search for microplastics, and cargo nets for adults to cover their loads to reduce litter on our roadways.
San Juan County’s Department of Environmental Stewardship Solid Waste Program leads this event every fall and spring. It’s powered by partnerships with The Exchange/Orcas Recycling Services, Lautenbach Recycling, Lopez Solid Waste Disposal District, San Juan Sanitation, Friends of the San Juans, the Stewardship Network of the San Juans, and numerous individual, business, and service group volunteers. The event is made possible through funding from the WA Department of Ecology’s Community Litter Cleanup Program.
