The lively Skagit County Master Composters Class visited Lautenbach’s Mount Vernon facility to see how we manage food waste to keep it out of landfills, where it decomposes and emits methane gas. 30-40% of the food in the U.S. is wasted, and Washington’s Organic Management Law is designed to reduce the amount of methane gas released from food decomposition. Our Tiger Depackaging Machine helps Northwest Washington businesses comply with the the law’s requirements. Companies that generate food waste bring it to our Mount Vernon facility (or we haul it for them), and our Depack machine separates organics from their packaging so we can transport it to anaerobic digesters that turn gas into electricity.
